Living Graves - By George Bernard Shaw

Living Graves
- By George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950)

We are the living graves of murdered beasts,
Slaughtered to satisfy our appetites.
We never pause to wonder at our feasts,
If animals, like men, can possibly have rights.
We pray on Sundays that we may have light,
To guide our footsteps on the path we tread.
We're sick of war, we do not want to fight -
The thought of it now fills our hearts with dread,
And yet - we gorge ourselves upon the dead.

Like carrion crows we live and feed on meat,
Regardless of the suffering and the pain
we cause by doing so, if thus we treat
defenceless animals for sport or gain,
how can we hope in this world to attain,
the PEACE we say we are so anxious for.
We pray for it o'er hecatombs of slain,
to God, while outraging the moral law,
thus cruelty begets its offspring - WAR.

Perth 18th May 2010- 23rd May 2010

Finally had a chance to go on a real overseas trip with my darling Wan Ching (Malaysia and Bintan not counted) and the destination is..... Perth!

We reached Perth on the night of 18th May and quickly settle
d down in Goodearth hotel. We booked a 2 bedroom apartment (her mum and grand-aunt travelled with us) which was nice and cosy.

1st Day:
The weather on the first day was cooling and it feels like the air-con was turned on outdoors. We went for a tour on the hop-on hop-off bus which cost us $25 each, only to realise that the money was unnecessarily spent as we could have taken the free CAT bus or other buses. The bus took us around the city centre, Burswood casino, King's park and Harbourtown shopping complex. We spent only 10 mins in Burswood (not enough time to gamble, of course) and the trip there was on an open-top bus. The feeling on top of the bus is great because the weather was cool and the view was great!

After Burswood, our next destination was the Barrack Street Jetty which is a ferry terminal. The wind was strong and it made us feel cold! The swan bells was also directly opposite the barrack street jetty.

Next up is King's park and this was the best of the bus tour, in my opinion. We took a tour of the park on the bus and we should have gotten off the bus and taken a walk in the park. There was a point in the park that overlooks the entire Perth city and the Swan river and the view was magnificent. A pity that we didn't take pictures from that spot.

Nothing much after King's park except window-shopping at Harbourtown and grocery shopping at a supermarket in Murray Street. After that, it was back to the hotel as the shops close at 5pm and there was nothing to do at night. What a relaxed lifestyle!

Day 2:

We embarked on the first of our two day tours with Aussie Perth Tours and we the first was a tour of the Pinnacles. We had to get up at 6+ and be ready by 7.15am. The Pinnacles was far far away in north of Perth (around 250km!!!!) and the journey took 3-4 hours (or maybe more). It was so long that I can't remember how long it was. On the way, we stopped by at Yanchep National Park where we saw our first koalas and kangaroos in Perth. There was also a beautiful and picturesque lake in the park and the view is something that you will see on a desktop wallpaper. We didn't spend too much time there as we had a long journey to continue.

The next notable stop-over was at the Cervantes beach where we had lunch. From there, we had a great view of the ocean. This trip to Perth enabled me to see how big the world can possibly be. I saw oceans without boundaries, lands without boundaries and skies without boundaries, which I couldn't have seen in Singapore where everything is blocked by skyscrapers.

After Cervantes, we were off to the Pinnacles which was the highlight of the trip. I shall describe using pictures instead of words.

Day 3:
Went to the Margaret river and stopped by at the Ngilgi cave, the old cheese factory, Margaret River chocolate factory and a winery for wine tasting. :)

Day 4:
Went to the port town of Fremantle to visit Fremantle prison, Fremantle market and the Cappuccino strip.

Day 5:
Last day in Perth. =( We went to the Caversham wildlife park, then to the Western Australian Museum to watch "A day in Pompeii" exhibition. That was followed by a short tour of Northbridge where we had pancakes and fries. Yummy. After that, we were off to the airport and home....

[Pictures to follow]

It was a great trip! I love you, baby!!! Muacks!

Long trip ahead....

Im starting the first leg of my four-legged trip from Singapore to Krakow.
*Yawns*
Currently at Changi Airport! Waiting for flight to KL!

Now at KL, waiting for flight to Amsterdam! =(

Didn't update cos there was no free wireless internet at Schipol Airport in Amsterdam and Frederic Chopin airport in Warsaw.

Amazingly, I made it through the four-legged trips with 3 stopovers in 28 hours with my luggage intact!

Im so lucky!
